Women entrepreneurs face unique challenges when it comes to accessing opportunities and resources in traditionally male-dominated industries such as engineering and mining. This is why partnerships like the one between WomHub and Sasol are so important in supporting female entrepreneurs in these fields.
WomHub aims to empower and support women in business through business development, technical development, financial coaching and providing access to market opportunities, capital and our innovation hubs. We holistically support not just the business but the founder as well. This is why we are excited to continue our partnership with Sasol to support more female founders and have them access supply chain opportunities by getting them business ready. The continued partnership between WomHub and Sasol is crucial because it helps to address the significant gender gap that exists in engineering and mining. Despite the fact that women make up nearly half of the global workforce, they remain significantly underrepresented in these industries. According to a 2020 report by the World Economic Forum, only 20% of the engineering workforce is female, while just 7% of the mining industry is made up of women. The stats are even worse when we look at women ownership in these sectors. By supporting female entrepreneurs in engineering and mining, WomHub and Sasol are helping to address this imbalance and promote greater gender equality in these industries. The benefits of supporting female entrepreneurs in these fields go beyond just addressing gender inequality. Research has shown that companies with more gender diversity tend to perform better financially and are more innovative. This is because diverse teams bring a wider range of perspectives and ideas, which can help companies to identify new opportunities and solve problems more effectively. In addition to these benefits, supporting female entrepreneurs in engineering and mining can also have a positive impact on the wider community. Women entrepreneurs are often more likely to reinvest their profits back into their communities, helping to create jobs and promote economic growth. Overall, the continued partnership between WomHub and Sasol to support female entrepreneurs in the engineering and mining industry is a positive step towards greater gender equality and economic growth. By providing training, mentorship, networking opportunities, access to capital, access to spaces and supply chains to women entrepreneurs, this program is helping to break down barriers and create new opportunities for women in traditionally male-dominated industries.
