Engineering in an Unpredictable World
The Global Grand Challenges Student Collaboration Lab was an innovation hackathon which took participants through imagineering, design and business development culminating in the opportunity for teams to attend the Global Grand Challenges Summit from the 16th – 18th September 2019 in London. The programme brought together students from the United Kingdom, China and United States of America to stimulate and encourage working cross–culturally and across various disciplines through a programme of challenge-led innovation, providing the tools to respond to global challenges in transformational ways.

The Student Collab culminated in a pitch-off, where the judges selected 4 winning mixed teams to present their proposals at the main Global Grand Challenges Summit.
The programme included:
- Cross-cultural icebreakers and team building sessions
- Scenario-based facilitated workshops, including time to develop new innovative business ideas in mixed teams
- A journey for students from imagineering to pitching new ideas
- Inspirational thought leaders
- Opportunities for feedback and mentoring from senior engineers
- Evening social events, including the opportunity to see and experience London
