Building Entrepreneurial Talent Pipelines
The Africa Innovation Fellowship (AIF) 2019 programme, powered by WomEng and the Royal Academy of Engineering’s Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation was a nine-month leadership & business development opportunity for African innovators.
AIF 2019 brought together 25 African innovators who have early stage engineering innovations or start-ups. AIF aimed to develop the talent pipeline for future cohorts of the Africa Prize for Engineering Innovation.
AIF 2019 kicked off with an in-person training week in Kampala, Uganda from 02 – 05 June 2019, focused on idea and business incubation, leadership development, networking and getting pitch-ready. The training week was followed by nine months of personalised virtual support with regular check-ins and milestones, ending in March 2020.
The prize for the winning pitch during the in-person training week was awarded a fully funded trip to London to attend the Global Grand Challenges Summit in September 2019. The winning pitch was awarded to Evangelista Chekera, founder of Passion Poultry. Fellows also received mentoring support, post-training week.
